First Quilt Blankets

When i first took up a sewing class, my first objective was to make K a quilt blanket. It didn't happened until recently that i really started to look for patterns, tutorial, etc. Of course i looked for easy and simple to do quilt.

My first quilt is a Layer Cake Lemonade Quilt. Pattern is available free from Fat Quarter Shop. The quilt consists of Layer cakes (10"x10") and it is quite easy to do. I made mine with blue, green, brown shades and with animals pattern. More like autumn colors.

My second quilt is Strip and Flip Baby Quilt from Cluck Cluck Sew. It just use Jelly Rolls. From the picture it might look easy to do but it wasn't that easy. I would say the most difficult part from this quilt is how to align those strips together between left and right column. Just do it slowly, you'll get it there.

This rainbow quilt i dedicated to my boy K. He loves rainbow since a year old and there is always a rainbow wherever he is.

For the backing, i used baby fleece. It's more difficult to sew but i just love how soft it feels. My boys love it too.

Hats Hats and Hats

I love to wear hats and i love my kids to wear them too (too bad they are not in the same frequency as mine), especially bucket hats where they are wide brim to protect you from sun ray.

After i made K's pj pants, i used the M&M's fabric to make him a bucket hat. I just love this M&M's fabric. It as cute pictures, nice colours.

This time i made Reversible Bucket Hat  by Oliver+S . It has 4 sized XS - L (from 6 months to 8 years old). The pattern is true to its size and it is just fit perfectly on K's head. I made a lot of hats with that pattern and i just love how it turned out.

Soon, i tried to find bucket hat patterns for adult. First i tried Kitsch Bitsch. For Asians, please do size S or the smallest size available. This pattern has a narrow brim and a wide side. The hat turned out to be really "deep" that at the end the brim will fall on your eye levels and just cover your eyes, which i don't really like. That's for me as not everyone hat the same face shape.

Then i tried Martha Stewart bucket hat. It just way too big. It worse than Kitsh Bitsch. When i made this, i have to make few adjustment. The brim is really wide. If you made this hat, you just need to put thicker fusible interfacing so the brim won't be so flimsy.

At the end, i just combine Kitsch Bitsch and Martha Stewart hats, make a few adjustable and at the end make the hat that i really like.

PJ Pants

The boys are growing up so fast. They have outgrown most of their pyjamas pants. So i decided to sew new pj pants for them.

A few months back i bought tinker bell flannel pj pants from disney store. It is to comfortable to wear. So i decided to make flannel pj pants for my boys too. D is in love with superhero nowadays, so he chose transformers print. Meanwhile K who is always in love with candy, chocolates and all those sweet treats, chose M&M's print (couldn't go far from it right  ^_^).

I follow PJ pants pattern and tutorial from Sew Jereli for K pants. She provided pj pants pattern until size 5. It has a clear instruction for you to follow.

D is 6 years old now, so i can't use the pattern from Sew Jereli. Instead i'm using the tutorial from Simple Modern Mom. She taught you how to draw your own pants pattern. But i guess i didn't follow it correctly.. i just get the pattern wrong, so i have to modified a little bit. Still D's pants is done.

Hexagon trivet and juice block paper piecing

This time i'm learning paper piecing from Ayumi Takahashi (Ayumi Mills) from Pink Penguin.

The first paper piece that i made is hexagon trivet.

It appears in Ayumi's book Patchwork, Please !

From the picture, it looks difficult but once you got the hang of it is easy. ^_^

My second paper piecing project is a juice block that appears in her blogspot Pink Penguin.
I made coasters out of it. The only problem i face with this block is preparing the fabric for the straw. Because the straw needed to be sticthed diagonally, i couldn't just cut a straight strip. I cut a bigger fabric piece for the straw and make sure ths area that needed to be covered is well covered.

Trip to Snowcity

D has been wanted to go Snowcity. He loves cold weather and wanted to feel the snow. So we brought D & K there. I thought.. Hey, we could make use of the cookie monster and elmo hats that i made for them some times ago. So i took the hats out from the drawer and showed it to them. Thank God they loved the hats. They wore it and pretended it was "winter" in Singapore.

So, here we went to snowcity, not forgeting elmo n cookie monster hats. We bought the tickets, and we also have to rent jackets, mittens and boots.

D loved it there. He could play there for hours but not for K. K felt very uncomfortable there. He was so cold until his nose and ears were red. Poor K. I have to quickly brought him out, sat down at the cafeteria and gave him some hot milo to warm him up. But overall, we had a great time there.

Next time to Snowcity, i think i should make a mask for K that will only leave his eyes uncovered, just like a ninja..heheheh

Have a blessed day.

DIY Seat Pet

D is 5 years old now. He is a big boy. We have to change his car seat to a booster seat. The problem when he sits on the booster seat is that when he fall asleep, his head will not be supported by anything. This is a photo when he pretended to sleep (i asked him to pose for my blog) 😝
I really pity him by seeing him sleeping that way. So, F and i were trying to figure out how to give him comfortable sleep while sitting on a booster seat.
After few months searching for an answers.. One day i happened to browse through Amazon.com (Yes, i love shopping with Amazon 😄), i saw a seat pet. Yes, a seat pet is a solution for us. But the problem is singapore doesn't have it, and if we have to ship it from America, it will be very expensive.
I looked around the house and  found kids bolsters that they didn't use anymore. You know what will happen next. Yes, i have turned the bolster into a seat pet for the kids.

I sown 2 velcro tape (head and back) at the bolster back. This it to hold the seat beat l

Next i sown 2 pockets in front. So D can his things inside.

Now he can sleep well in a car and we saved our money too. The problem is solved.

Kids Chair Pockets

I bought 2 chair pockets from Spotlight a year ago. They are so useful for keeping my kids books, color pencils, toys, etc. They just help to keep my table clean and tidy. Love it.
After a year, my boys grew bigger and their books and toys are getting more and more. Our house became so messy and needed a place to keep their stuffs. So i decided to make another chair pocket to keep their stuff. K loves this chair pocket, since i used CARS fabric.

I made these 2 for my best friends who has twins, boy and girl. I decided to make something similar and yet different.. It's twins stuff. Glad that they like them.

I think i have to make a chair pocket for myself to put my sewing stuff-in. What do you think? Do adults need chair pockets too?

Happy Teacher's Day 2013

Happy Teacher's Day to all teachers!
This year Teacher's Day i made crochet cupcake pouch for D and K's teachers. It was just a small pouch, enough to put some cookies in it. My sister-in-law helped me with the Teacher's day cookies but i forgot to take a picture of the cookies for my blog 😱...Basically it was apple shaped cookies with icing and 'Happy Teacher's Day' word on it. It is similar to the animated apple that i pasted on the picture 😊
Anyway... Hope the teachers love the gift and wish all the teacher "Happy Teacher's Day!".

Have a great weekend all!

Tissue n Wipes Organizer

,OMG... It's been 2 months i didn't update my blog. I was so busy with kids, house chores, etc. The sewing project that normally can be done within a day, i took abt a week or two to finish it. Seriously.. Is it just me or other homemakers out there experience this too. I just admire those with 3 kids and still have time to do some quilting.. How did they manage their time? Do they sleep? I'm still struggling with time management after few years....haizzz. Ok, stop complaining. Giving thanks to God in everything.

Few months back my husband gave me an crazy idea to make an organizer or pouch that can hold baby wipes and travel pack dry tissue. As a mom with 2 toddlers, wipes and tissue are really important, we can't go out without them when we go out with kids. I searched online for the pattern and tutorial and found none. Maybe nobody made it before? I took few months getting an idea how to make it. Yes,.. I'm a beginner in sewing, so even planning and sewing take longer time... But don't worry.. I'm getting faster ^_^ Finally i managed to made the tissue and wipes organizer. It's not prefect yet but it serves the purpose and i'm happy how it turned out.

Still Crochet Bags

I was addicted to make more Starling bags from Alice Merlino from Future Girl Craft Blog. She provides free pattern of Starling bag in three different sizes (small, medium and large). The final product looks greats regardless the size you make. It is great for daily usage too.

I made some minor changes in the recent bags that i made, so i can achieved the size that i wanted. I added some appliqué, zipper, magnetic snap button and (of course) lining. Here they are. Hope you like them as much as i do.

I made this hello kitty pouch from the left over yarns that i have. I wanted something different. So instead of making a bag i made a small pouch and add a zipper. I had difficulty attaching the zipper. However I am happy at how it turns out. Gosh... surely i need more practice attaching the zipper on lining. Wish me luck.

Crochet Owl Purse

You know i love to crochet owl. I think they are so cute. The last time i spotted the owl crochet purse and decided to make it. So.. tadaaaa. The bag pattern is from Future Girl (The startling crochet bag).

I sew a lining to this bag too. A lining makes the bag looks so much nice. You can find a tutorial of sewing a lining from Future Girl too.

My first pencil cases

My friend Jo & Ann asked me to make a pencil case for them. I learnt how to make a pouch with zipper before but i never practice to make a pouch with zipper afterwards. I was nervous. I didn't know if i'd do it well. I started to look for tutorials how to make a zipper pouch and it also a way to boost my confidence. Finally i did it. These are my first zipper pencil cases. Hope they like it.
